O
preço de 22 dólares.
Todos
os nossos 106 membros que tomaram
parte na nossa última Ceia do Bacalhau No.
51 aceitaram por bem o aumento do preço da refeição para
22 dólares. Todos nós reconhecemos que o preço dos alimentos
nos últimos 4 anos têm subido e o bacalhau ou “fiel amigo” não tem
sido excepcão. A Direcção procura
usar senso comum para com os nossos sócios e para com os 4 restaurantes que
nos têm servido e quando assim é,
as coisas decorrem bem.
Garantia
dos lugares
Na
nossa última ceia decorreu um episódio que queremos que todos saibam para que
todos possamos evitar que o mesmo venha acontecer outra vez.
É
do conhecimento geral que a nossa Direcção,
desde a nossa fundação, tem
insistido para que TODOS os nossos Compadres e Comadres chamem PREVIAMENTE
a marcar os seus lugares para assim termos uma conta certa e
podermos informar o
respectivo restaurante para que possam ter a comida pronta e poderem servir-nos
sem atrazo. Em abono da verdade
MUITOS, quase todos, dos nossos sócios
têm sido muito respeitadores e têm
atendido o nosso pedido. Ainda bem.
Sucede que alguns dos nossos membros preferem telefonar directamante para
o restaurante e marcar os seus lugares. Para
a última ceia telefonaram para o restaurante e marcaram um total de 14 lugares.
Mas por qualquer razão 8 não apareceram. E claro não foram servidos.
Mas o restaurante exigiu que a Academim pagasse por
os 8 lugares das pessoas que
não apareceram. Claro que a
Academia não pagou! Nem nunca pagará
por nenhum lugar que a Direcção da
Academia não garanta!
Para termos control desta coisa
é preferível que as pessoas chamem a marcar os
seus lugares para os 3 telefones dos Directores que
estão indicados acima neste Boletim.
Esperamos a cooperação de TODOS.

The
new price of 22 dollars
All
106 members of our Academy that participated in our 51st Supper accepted very
well the new price of 22 dollars for the meal. We all recognize that all foods
in the last four years have increased in price and the codfish or our
“faithful friend” has not been any exception. Our Directors continue to use
common sense dealing with our members and also with the 4 restaurants
that have been serving us and this way every thing will run smoothly.
The
guaranty
of meals
At
the end of our last supper one episode
occurred and we want all our membership to
know about it, so we can prevent
this from happening again. It is common knowledge that our Directors, since our
foundation, has insisted
that ALL our members reserve their
meals PRIOR to our supper,
so we can have the exact number of people coming to each supper and
inform the respective restaurant so
they can have the food ready for us and this way we can be served without any
delay. We must state that in all
truth MANY, almost all, of our
members have been respectful of our request. We are please with it.
However
there are some of our members who prefer to call the restaurant directly for
reservations. For the last supper
14 people called the restaurant,
but for some reason, 8 did not show
up. Obviously they were NOT served a meal. Yet
the restaurant requested that the Academy paid for those 8 meals!
Obviously the
Academy did not pay! The Academy will never pay for any meal that has not
assured
to the restaurant.
So in order we can have control of the reservation NUMBERS,
we ask our members to call one of the 3 telephones indicated above on
this Bulletin and speak with one of our Directors indicating the number of
reservations. We ask for the cooperation of everyone. Thanks!

Supper
No. 50th we had 120
members participating
and we cleared $895.
Supper
No. 51 we had 106 members attending and we cleared $801.
Request
of books about the Portuguese history
and Culture
We
received a letter signed by Anthony
S. Nunes of the Coyle and Cassidy High School from Taunton,
MA informing us that they
have been teaching Portuguese for the past 20 years, and at the present
time have more than 100 students enrolled in
Portuguese
classes
and are requesting that our Academy
give them books about Portugal in
English for their School Library. We are prepared to satisfy
their wish.
