Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Victória, no meio da Lagoa das Furnas, construção de estilo gótico, foi mandada construir por José do Canto, opulento proprietário açoriano. Foi investigador e bibliográfico. Ele e a mulher, Maria Guilhermina Taveira Brum da Silveira, estão espultados nesta igreja, como se fosse o Taj Mahal Português.
José do Canto era irmão do Ernesto do Canto, que escreveu o famoso livro sobre "Os Corte Reais" em 1883
Our
Lady of Victory Church, on the margins of the Furnas Small Lake, in gothic
style, was built by
José do Canto, who had many properties in the
Azores. He was an investigator and also bibliographer. He and his wife are
buried in this church and for this fact many consider this church to be
the Portuguese Taj Mahal.
