Praising
Delabarre's Historical Discoveries!
This cartoon (below) praising Professor Edmund Burke Delabarre's discovery, on December 2nd , 1918, of the Portuguese inscriptions engraved on the face of the Dighton Rock, merited a high decoration to him by the Portuguese Government with the Award of the Cross of the Order of Christ. This cartoon was sent to me, by e-mail, by Mr. David de la Barre, a direct relative of Professor Delabarre.
I was very pleased to receive it, and it is going to be placed in my Library-Museum in Portugal, together with other papers Delabarre did while doing his research on Dighton Rock. We do not know the date, nor the newspaper that published this cartoon. If any one of you knows, please inform me so we can give credit to that publication. It must have been published sometime in the early twenties If you know the name of the newspaper that published this, please let me know. Thanks
After a Bill was approved by the Legislature and signed by the Governor of Massachusetts, the DEM placed this plaque honoring Professor Delabarre's discoveries at the entrance of the Dighton Rock State Park.
