Portuguese Columbus Material
If the Papacy was the International Tribunal to decide the division of the world between Portugal and Spain in 1494 -- by approving the Treaty of Tordesillas -- Pope Alexander VI must have had documents on which to base his decision. With this simple reasoning, my wife Sílvia, and I decided to go to the Library of the Vatican, in Rome, Italy, and find out if indeed there were any such documents related to the Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. Yes, there are four Papal Bulls related to the discovery of America, but only the first two Bulls refer to the name of the navigator. And his name appears written on the Papal Bulls as Cristofõm Colon, not as Christopher Columbus!!!

Central America was discovered by the Portuguese navigator, Cristofõm Colon in 1492. South America, Brazil , was discovered by Pedro Álvares Cabral in 1500. And Fernão de Magalhães passed the straight that bears his name, in 1520, in his first voyage of Circumnavigation (1519-1522) See the related articles below |
