Diaspora
Diaspora is a Jewish word that means a group of people that leave the country, their home land, and become emigrants from that country, to become Immigrants (going in) into another country.
Of the 204 independent nations in the world, Israel and Portugal are the two countries that have the highest percentage of emigrants, going out.
Portugal has 45 per cent of the Portuguese that exist in this globe are emigrants, that is, that left the home land and went to live in another country.
Because the standard of living in Portugal increased, due to belonging to the European Union, only this year (2001) did the Portuguese population increase to over 10 million. All other years it never went above 10 million, because the surplus went out into the emigration, or diaspora.
