Dr. Luciano da Silva was honored as “Man of the Year of 2008”  by the Fraternal and Cultural Institution of  the “Friends of Terceira”,  “Os Amigos da Terceira”, from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, U. S. A.

“Os Amigos da Terceira” = “The Friends of Terceira”,  from Pawtucket, Rhode  Island, are  a  Portuguese -American organization most active in social, cultural and charitable activities. In twenty years they have given to charitable organizations  more than one million dollars! 

 

All their activities are aimed at given pride of the Portuguese roots to their children and grandchildren.  Every single week they have at their headquarters  important activities  and always  with a full house. It is really amazing! 

 

They had also a full house on Saturday, on March 29th,  2008  when  they  paid homage to  Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva by making him  “Man of the Year of 2008”.

 

The plaque that he received given by Mr. Clemente  Anastácio, President of the General Assembly,  reads as follows:

 

“The Community Center of the Group of the Friends of Terceira  (Emigrants for the island of Terceira,  in Azores), localized in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, honors Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva  for his community involvements in favor of the Portuguese  language and  culture  and also for his medical services to the Portuguese American Community in Rhode Island,  for more than fifty years.”

Besides the Plaque from the  “Friends of Terceira”,  Dr. Luciano da Silva   also receive plaques from representatives of four other Portuguese-  American organizations to which he served in the past years. Here  are  their names by alphabet order:

 

- Bristol Sports club

- Dom Luis Filipe Beneficent Association

- Knights of Corte Reais

- Portuguese Continental Union – Luso-American Life.

 

And also Poet Dimas Coelho read a poem describing the biography of the Doctor.

 

John Costa, the General Manager of the Bristol Sports Club,  presented to the Doctor this plaque which says: 

The Bristol Sports Club to Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva in recognition of all his services to the members of the Bristol Sports Club with the highest esteem and consideration.

Antony Avila, Past President of the Dom Luis Filipe Beneficial Association (the oldest Portuguese American organization in the United  States of America), gave the Doctor   this plaque which says: 

The Directors of The Dom Luis Filipe Beneficial Association  of Bristol, Rhode Island, take this opportunity  to congratulate Manuel Luciano da Silva upon  receiving such high honor from the Friends of Terceira.

Joseph Moniz, President of  the Knights of Corte Reais,   presented  to the Doctor a plaque in form of a book with  a clock.  It says:

The Board of Directors and Members of the Knights  of Corte Reais congratulated Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva  for being  honored by the Group of Friends of Terceira.

Jose da Costa, past president of the Branch Teófilo Braga, of  the Portuguese Continental Union –Luso-American Life Insurance, gave   a Diploma to Doctor  which reads as follows:

Mr. Dimas Coelho,  a very popular poet,  read a poem describing the biography of the doctor and also his  activities in helping the Portuguese American Community. Here is the poem in Portuguese:
