Gifts of  books to the Public Libraries

The Directors of  ‘The Academy of Codfish of New England, Inc.’ knowing that there is a need of books in English about the Portuguese History and Culture have bought a series of books  to offer to the  public, high schools and even universities libraries in New England.   These books written in English will benefit all native Americans, but also the sons , daughters and grandchildren of the Portuguese immigrants  to understand the roots of their forbears.

While the Portuguese diplomatic authorities in U. S. A.  are spending their energies in the teaching of the Portuguese language, the Academy of Codfish feels that the books in English  are  also most necessary for the Americans  and for the future generations of the Portuguese Americans.

These photos taken at the ‘Casa da Saudade Library’ in New Bedford , on January 11, 2005, are  a good examples of the repeated  scenes  that are occurring at the various libraries in New England .  So those of you that are interested in the Portuguese History and Culture consult your local library and most likely you will find there  copies of these books:

1-     ‘Portugal with Madeira and the Azores’ by Dorling Kindersley. The best book about  Portugal .

2-     ‘The Portuguese Making of America’ by Manuel Mira.

3-     ‘Os Portugueses na formação da América ‘, by Manuel Mira.

4-     ‘Azorean Popular Culture Today’ by Gabriela Funk.

5-     ‘The Man and the Sea’ – ‘O  Homem e o Mar’, by João Gomes Vieira.  In both languages. This books weighs 2 pounds and has many photos.

This photo was taken at the  moment  when the book and the large map describing all the 15 generations of the Family of Corte Real Navigators, were delivered  to the Library  by Dr. Luciano da Silva,  as the  gift from Dr. João  Emanuel Moniz Campos Gomes, a direct descend of the Corte Reais.

With this donation the 'Casa da Saudade'  is the only Library in Unites States that has the true  genealogical tree of ALL  Corte Reais.
