Illustrated lecture by Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva, a physician, historian, writer, researcher, lecturer, and TV personality.
Dr. Da Silva will analyze the world impact of the Portuguese Nautical School at Sagres; the importance of the Caravel with its Lateen Sails, in the high sea navigations; the interpretation of ocean currents and winds in the world discoveries; analysis of the latitudes of the Nautical Chart of 1424 and the discovery of the True Antilles; and will present archeological and linguistic evidences of the early discoveries of the Portuguese in North America.
This lecture will number 349 by Dr. Da Silva, since 1960. At the end of the lecture will be questions and answers.
On June 12, 2001, in his birthplace, in Portugal, a library-museum with his name was dedicated to him, where all his many thousands of books and his original researches are now kept.
