This excellent photo was sent to me by Mr. Cândido Mesquita from New York, Member of the  Academy of Codfish of New York City   (Part of the students were still  inside of the Museum)

On Saturday April 21st, 2007, more the  200 students of the six Official Portuguese Schools of the States of New Jersey and New York accompanied with theirs parents and also by the members of the Academy of Codfish of New York, came to visit  the  Dighton Rock Musuem, in Berkley, Massachusetts.

This pilgrimage had the objective to visit the Portuguese American Monuments in New England. They came in 4 buses, and 8 automobiles. Their round trip was  almost 600 miles, but these students will never forget this memorable voyage  in relation to their Portuguese roots.

Our sincere thanks and  congratulations to the organizers of this trip: Mr. João  Crisóstomo, Dr. António de Oliveira, all Board of Directors of the Schools, Teachers, Patrons,, and even the members of the  media: newspapers, magazines and TV.

Besides the Dighton Rock  Museum this group also saw the Statue  of Prince Henry in Fall River, the “Portas da Cidade” (The Doors of the City). Fall River and Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, are sister Cities).  Then they went to Newport to see the Portuguese Synagogue Touro, the round Newport Tower similar to the Charola (Main Alter of Convent of Tomar, Portugal) and the Portuguese Discoveries Monument at the Brenton Park, at the entrance of the Narragansett Bay of the State of Rhode Island.

We intend to place on this website more information about the schools, the teachers, the patrons and information presented by the media about this event.

We take this opportunity to express our thanks to the  other Board Directors of the “Friends of Dighton Rock Museum” for their cooperation in this event: Silvia Jorge da Silva, Daniel Amaral and Etelvino Andrade.

We are most grateful to the General Manager of the Dighton Rock State Park, Mr. John Roberts, for his excellent cooperation also,  so the entire affair could run very smoothly.
