Donors of the money for the scholarships:

The Portuguese American Citizens Committee of Rhode Island   has  developed a unique technique of obtaining the monies to offer in form of scholarships. They approach the business, professional and industrial  leaders and ask them for gifts of thousands of dollars  ---  so they can discount their donations  in their  income taxes. For the scholarships of  this year the following leaders  should be acknowledged:

Dr. Manuel da Silva, famous Orthopedic Surgeon, with his wife, a nurse. He made a very important speech.

In 1982 he received a scholarship  of $1,000 from this organization when he entered the  Brown University Medical School.  Now he is one of the donors for the Scholarship Fund. Beautiful gesture!
