Lahey Clinic and Dighton Rock
By Manuel Luciano da Silva,  M. D.

I was a Fellow in Internal Medicine between 1960 and 1963, at the world famous  Lahey Clinic located at  600  Commonwealth Ave, Boston, Massachusetts. I have always valued  this  postgraduate  medical training  the most important of my professional life.  When Frank Lahey, Medical Doctor, founded a group practice in 1923, his vision was unique: every component of a patient's health care would be coordinated under one roof. Lahey Clinic still offers this distinctive patient experience.

Lahey Clinic is a physician-led, nonprofit group practice. Nearly 450 physicians and more than 4,000 nurses, therapists and other support staff work together to provide compassionate care and superior patient outcomes. The Clinic's multidisciplinary approach allows patients access to preeminent physicians from virtually every medical specialty, who cooperate to develop personalized treatment plans for each patient.
From advanced technology to research and medical education, Lahey Clinic combines the renowned specialty resources of its medical centers with top-quality primary care services at community-based practices throughout northeastern Massachusetts.

The three Medical Schools in the City of Boston: Harvard Medical School, Tuffs Medical School and Boston Medical  School used the  Medical Doctors from the Lahey Clinic as their  Professors of Medicine.

The work of the Fellows at the Lahey Clinic

Lahey Clinic has patients from all over the USA and  also from many foreign countries. Every patient is  first  seen by a Fellow who  obtains a complete medical history, a very careful  physical exam and  orders a complete set  of laboratory tests before reaching  the diagnoses which he then will discusses with his superior.  If the patient needs to have a consultations this will be  requested of another specialist  of the Lahey Clinic.

I learned a NEW method of diagnosis at Lahey Clinic:

Every patient that came to Lahey Clinic for a second opinion, when  I was his or / her  first examining physician,  brought  with him  various laboratory results,---  BUT  I was not allowed to review any of the laboratories tests, such as X rays, etc, ---  BEFORE I  obtained  OUR laboratory exams at the Lahey Clinic  and I  reached  my  FINAL DIAGNOSIS.

ONLY  AFTER  I  finished my medical  workup,  was I allowed to review the results of the exams that the patient  HAD BROUGHT with him. WHY SUCH A TECHNIQUE?  Because Lahey Clinic wants to have a NEW, and FRESH  approach to EVERY patient and NOT be PERSUADED  by any OUTSIDE suggestions!

I always kept  as an ALERT this method of diagnosis during my professional life! I even have applied this same TECHNIQUE  to my  investigations of  the Dighton Rock inscriptions.  I consider the inscriptions engraved on the rock  TO BE THE PRIMARY  EVIDENCE  OF  THE PORTUGUESE THEORY.

I  DO NOT NEED ANY OTHER DOCUMENT OR  PAPYRUS TO CONFIRM MY DIAGNOSIS!

PRECONCEIVED  IDEA

Nobody should go to the Dighton Rock with the PRECONCEIVED  IDEA OF  ANY SPECIFIC THEORY.  YOU SURE WILL BE DOOMED TO FAIL!  SCIENTIFICALLY THINGS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!

What you should do is make  FIRST a trip to Continental Portugal. Make it your “Fellowship”  to Portugal  before you  make the diagnosis of the Dighton Rock inscriptions!
