Dighton is an immigrant rock! Ten thousand years ago, during the last Glacial Period, it started rolling down, together with huge pieces of ice, from North of New England, or even Canada, until it finally rested, upside-down, on the left bank of the Taunton River.
For many centuries the only protection it had was being covered by tidal water, twenty hours per day! The rest of the time, it had to RESIST the attacks of the vandals who made a variety of engravings defacing it!
Luckily its composition is strong, being rich in mica and feldspar!
Dighton Rock has been in the "RING" fighting, resisting not only the aggressive physical elements, but also the human jealousies and enviousness.
Fortunately, since 1974, it has been preserved inside of a glass enclosure. Now it is not anymore the "miserable boulder", but instead has become a precious rock!
It is finally a protected American Monument, the corner of the American History!
Let us now review the series of the "fighting rounds" that Dighton Rock has resisted, suffered and survived!
