Dr.
Da Silva is worthy of many, many honors
To
the Editor:
Three
cheers for Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva. He
is a man who has gone many miles on behalf of his fellow man, not only in
Bristol but throughout the United States and Portugal. On June 10, the
library-museum in his birthplace, Vale de Cambra, was dedicated to the doctor.
Part
of the facility is new and very modern. The other portion
is the older building where Dr. da Silva was born on Sept. 5, 1926.
This building is a rather small stone building that was built to last a
thousand years and it fits nicely into the library-museum complex. This building
has already been in existence for 200 years.
No
da Silva museum would be complete without a copy of Dighton Rock in the
courtyard. The original Dighton
Rock is Dighton, Mass., has been a labor of love for the doctor for many years.
The replica is now in the library-museum courtyard next to a cherry tree
honoring Dr. da Silva’s father who was known as the “Cherry-Tree Man”.
Dr.
da Silva is not only a retired medical doctor, he is also a TV personality,
researcher, writer, historical, lecturer and traveler, and he is also a great
guy. Oh yes, he is also a former marshal of the Fourth
of July parade.

Dr. Da Silva é merecedor de muitas mais honras!
Três
vivas ao Dr. Manuel Luciano da Silva! Ele
é um homem que tem percorrido já
muitas milhas a favor dos seus semelhantes não
só em Bristol, mas nos
Estados Unidos e Portugal. No
dia 10 de Junho uma biblioteca-museu foi inaugurada em honra do doutor,
no local do seu nascimento,
em Vale de Cambra. (Portugal)
Parte
deste conjunto é novo e muito moderno. A
outra parte dos edifícios é velha onde
o Dr. Da Silva nasceu, a 5 de
Setembro de 1926. Esta casa construida
em pedra
é relativamente pequena,
mas foi edificada para durar
mil anos e ajusta-se muito bem no
conjunto do complexo da biblioteca-museu. Esta casa já existe há mais de 200
anos.
Nenhum
museu do Dr. Da Silva estaria completo sem uma cópia da Pedra de Dighton no seu
pátio. O original da Pedra de Dighon está em Dighton, no Estado de
Masachusetts e tem sido uma paixão
do doutor durante muitos anos. Mas réplica
está agora no pátio da biblioteca-museu, muito
próximo duma cerejeira em
honra do pai do Dr. Da Silva porque ele tinha
cognome de “o Cerejeiras”.
O
Dr. Da Silva não é apenas um médico reformado, ele é
também uma personalidade da televisão, um investigador, um escritor, um
historiador, um conferencista e um viajador,
mas acima de tudo é uma belíssima
pessoa.
Quero
acrescentar mais, ele foi também Mordomo-Mór da grande parada do Quatro
de Julho em Bristol. (1975).
