Classification of the Portuguese Consuls

Classification of the Portuguese consuls
Portuguese Diplomats in the United States:
Delegates at the United Nations in New York City
Portuguese Embassy in Washington

Consuls:
First Class Consuls
Second Class Consuls
Third Class Consul

The above have to be Portuguese citizens, and are full time diplomats. They received full salary directly from the Government of Portugal.

Fourth Class Consul, are also called Honorary Consuls, and they do not have to be Portuguese citizens. They make their income from the rent the Portuguese Government pay them for the use of their office space, plus fifty percent of all the fees that the consulate collects from passports, visas, or any other documentation.
