The Dighton Rock Museum has truths and frauds!
By Manuel Luciano da Silva, Medical Doctor
Dighton Rock Museum is now a complete Massachusetts Historical Institution. It is located in the Town of Berkley, 40 miles south of Boston, 10 miles north of the City of Fall River and can be reached by route 24, exit 10.
The Museum is the main attraction in the Dighton Rock State Park which has about 100 acres of land. There are picnic facilities. The park and the Museum are free, but it is advised to call ahead to enter into the Museum. Tel. 1-508-644-5522
Dighton Rock weighs 40 tons. For thousands of years was covered by tidal water 20 hours per day of the Taunton River. In 1963 it was elevated 11 feet and placed on a cofferdam. In 1973 an octagonal Pavilion was inaugurated and since then the rock has been protected by a glass enclosure. In 1978 a contiguous Museum was inaugurated. Since then “The Friends of Dighton Rock Museum, Inc”, a non-profit organization, has worked very hard to obtain several unique maritime artifacts. The Museum is now considered complete. It is a beauty!
When I first saw Dighton Rock.
I saw the Dighton Rock for the first time on August 14, 1948, when I was a student at the New York University. Since then Dighton Rock became “my mistress!” I do not know how many hours and how many dollars I have spent together with my wife trying to preserve and protect this famous American Monument. We were successful with the help of many people. It was on August 12, 2011, that the Replica of a Codfish was inaugurated, as a gift from the Academy of Codfish of New England and with this artifact we considered the Museum to be finally complete. It has been a very long time!!! It took me 63 years to see this Museum complete!!!
The Panels inside of the Museum
There are six panels inside of the Dighton Rock Museum analyzing FOUR theories: (1) American Indian, (2) Phoenician, (3) Viking, and (4) Portuguese.
Three Panels describe THREE FRAUDS:
Fraud No. 1 --- On Panel No. 1, -- the very first “sheet” states that there are MORE than 22 theories for the inscriptions. These are a bunch of LIES because ALL of these so called “theories” do not make any sense at all !!! Their proponents never saw the face of the rock, and more important, their speculations do not MATCH ANY of THE INSCRIPTIONS ENGRAVED ON THE FACE OF THE ROCK. Here is a list of the FRAUDULENT “THEORIES”:
FALSE HYPOTHESIS:
Now let us review the list of the 21 FALSE HYPOTHESIS compiled by Professor
Edmund Burk Delabarre in his book, "Dighton Rock", page 144, (1928):
(1) The Devil, (2) Jesus Christ, (3) Roman, (4) Phoenicians, (5) Egyptians, (6) Jews 1000 B. C. ,(7) Libyans, (8) Persians, (9) Carthagians, (10) Chinese, (11) American Indians, (12) Vikings, (13) Scotch, (14) Pirates, (15) Verrazzano, (16) Siberians, (17) Japanese, (18) Greeks, (19 Welch, (20) Scythians, (21) Tyrians.
Unfortunately the Interpretative Officers of the Department Environment Management of MA and ALL the American Universities Professors - Anthropologists and Epigraphists -- NEVER studied the Portuguese National Symbols of the Discoveries and therefore they have OSTRACIZED the Portuguese theory! Their attitudes will go down in History as the most outstanding examples of bias and unfairness!
Fraud No. 2 – Panel No. 3 entitled “Phoenician Theory” is also a blunt fraud because its proponent, Antoine Court De Gébelin from Paris, France, a protestant pastor, CHANGED the drawing of the Dighton Rock inscriptions he had received from America sent to him by John Winthrop in 1764, and in France, in 1768, he DECIDED to ADD to the SAME drawing the symbol of a PENIS!
De Gébelin NEVER saw in person the rock! He bluntly committed FRAUD!

Fraud No. 3 – Panel No. 4 entitled “Viking Theory” is also a blunt fraud:
Carl Christian Rafn was a Danish antiquarian noted for his early advocacy of the theory that the Vikings explored North America centuries before Christopher Columbus.
Rafn was particularly interested in discovering the location of the Vinland mentioned in the Norse sagas. Rafn believed Vinland to have been in the modern-day New England in USA.
He NEVER saw the rock!
Rafn published in Denmark a large book in 1837 entitled the “Antiquitates Americanae” after he received a copy of the drawing of the Dighton Rock inscriptions sent to him in 1834 by the Rhode Island Historical Society of Providence, Rhode Island, USA.
Rafn committed FRAUD because in Denmark in 1837, he changed the drawing he had received from America. He ADDED, to the center of the drawing, three letters F I N to coincide with the name Thorfinn who is mentioned on the Norse sagas.

Let us look now at the TRUTHS inside of the Dighton Rock Museum:
No. 1- The face of Dighton Rock should be examined during the night with light side ways for better contrast of the inscriptions
No. 2 – All the Maritime artifacts are truthful ones and were given by international authorities: King of Spain, Prime Minister of Portugal and President of the Gulbenkian Foundation of Lisbon Portugal and also the Codfish Replica a gift from the Academy of Codfish of New England.
No. 3- The Portuguese Theory is the ONLY TRUTHFUL ONE!
You have to READ the INSCRIPTIONS and compared them directly with the Portuguese National Symbols.
If you do not know the shape of the Portuguese National symbols, you will feel BLIND looking at the Dighton Rock Inscriptions!

This photo was published by the National Geographic Magazine on January, 1975. Taken at night with light sideways.
Compare the inscriptions on the rock with the drawing below.

This is the CONCLUSION of the Dighton Rock inscriptions that

The Portuguese Inscriptions engraved on Dighton Rock

Dighton Rock is now preserved inside of an octagonal enclosure in the Pavilion

Miguel Corte Real, born in the Island of Terceira, Azores, came to New England in 1502 looking for his brother Gaspar Corte Real, but neither returned to Portugal. Miguel left his “calling card” engraved on the face of Dighton Rock!
