The
Tomb of Colon’s (Columbus) father |
Comparative
analysis of DNA of the Duke of Beja, |
|
Lately a lot of interest was started
to have the studies of DNA on the bones of Christopher Columbus, or
better still on Cristóvão Colon’s.
This
idea was not initiated by the historians, but instead by the media
members who are always looking for controversial news. They want to put
to shame either Spain or Santo Domingo to see which of these two countries has
indeed the real navigator’s
bones. To me it does not make any difference!
What
I am interested is in the confirmation of the truth about the
navigator’s nationality!
For
this we should consult the coeval documents
pertinent to the true
navigator, such as:
(1) The Sigla
(2) Monogram
(3) Blessing
(4) And the historical information concerning his biological father, Dom Fernando, Duke of Beja, who had a forbidden love affair with a young lady of the Portuguese Royal Court, Isabel Gonsalves Zarco, got her pregnant and she delivered a boy in Cuba, ( six miles north of Beja), Alentejo, in 1448. This boy was baptized as Salvador Fernando Zarco and later changed his name to Cristofõm Colon.Columbus was 100% Portuguese! Based exclusively on original documents!

This map show us the relationship of the City of Beja with Cuba, Lisbon, and with southern part of Portugal, including Algarve.
The tomb of the Dom Fernando, Duke of Beja, is kept safe in the Church of Our Lady of Conception, in the center of the City. The entire Convent was adopted to become the City Museum.

The interior of the Church of Our Lady of Conception. Note the richness of the art work done on the wood of the altars. The main alter is at the center. The tomb is on the left.

On this photo we see the main altar and the tomb on the left.

This is D. Fernando's, Duke of Beja Tomb
From the inside of this mausoleum samples of the hair of the Duke D. Fernando can be obtained to compare his DNA with the DNA of the hairs of the Duke of Verágua, Don Diego Colon, who is the eighteenth direct descendent of Cristovão Colon, commonly referred to as Columbus.
This Don Diego Colon lives in Madrid, Spain, in a Palace called “Saudade” and he came to United States of America, Florida, in 1992, to celebrate the Discovery of America.
This photo was obtained by my good friend Humberto Carreiro, from Bristol, Rhode Island, who happened to be, by coincidence, visiting also Florida, St. Augustine, in the Park Ponce Leon.
Will the civic and religious Portuguese authorities give permission to open this tomb to obtain samples of his hair to study D. Fernando’s DNA?
Will the Duke of Verágua give samples of his hair for the scientists to make the comparison of his DNA?
For the sake of science, I hope everyone agrees to the authorizations!
