Steel fabrication is a big part of many construction projects, from small extensions to full-scale commercial builds. That determines how all the key elements are built to pass muster in style, load condition or not squealing when installed on a job site. Four products most frequently fabricated – Beams, columns, brackets and base plates.
Beams are the horizontal members which are supported at their ends and carry loads across openings while they also support floors, roofs etc. Fabrications that may be included are cutting to length, drilling connection holes or welding on end plates. If massive strength is required stiffeners may be added.
Vertical loads on the foundation are transferred by columns. Usually they use exact diameter drilling as well with weld points – to make them fit against different beams and floor layers.
Brackets are smaller but crucial. Used for bracing, strapping and fixing steel to timber or masonry something similar to a tie rod. Brackets are a frequent one-off item so sharp drawings with specific dimensions are helpful. For a Fabrication Company Gloucester, visit www.mber.uk/steel-services/fabrication-gloucester
Bases are used to sit at the base of columns which spread the load onto concrete. They are usually ordered with drilled holes for holding-down bolts, as well as spigots, welded cleats or stiffeners depending on the design.
The three drivers in a successful steel package for customers are:
Engineered drawings with the correct size bolts and hole positions
Right grade and spec of steel
Proper fit-up, welding and then important piece part fitting when it comes out into the field.
