Developed by researchers at the University of Singapore, a water-based air conditioning system uses membranes to remove moisture from air and discharges cool indoor air. This system uses less electricity than current compressor air conditioners, and produces twelve to fifteen litres of potable drinking water each day. Additionally, this system uses up to 40 percent less electricity than conventional air conditioners. Researchers also note that, of course, water is more environmentally friendly than hydrofluorocarbons.
